This section of our website is dedicated to those past students who have gone on to make their mark in the wider world. Cansfield is very proud of its alumni and whether students have gone on to Oxford or Cambridge, excelled in professional sport, the arts or whatever their chosen field, here we celebrate their achievements.

CANSFIELD ALUMNI

Class of 2013 - Ben Calland (Rugby League Player)

Ben left Cansfield this summer and after spending much of his youth playing for Blackbrook Royals in St. Helens, he was signed onto the Wigan Warriors scholarship program in 2011. Ben has now been handed a new contract at the Warriors and is now a full member of the Academy Squad. A bright future lies ahead.

Class of 2012 - Kieran Sherratt (Rugby League Player)

Former Head Boy Kieran spent most of his schoolboy rugby career playing for Wigan St. Patrick's and Cansfield School. After leaving Cansfield he was signed into the academy squad at Leigh Centurions. After impressing at the Sports Village, Kieran was signed by Wigan Warriors and is now full time member of the Academy Squad. Big things are expected of this very talented young man.

Class of 2009 - Jack Sampson (Footballer)

Jack Sampson came through the Wigan Athletic academy before joining Bolton in 2008.
Sampson joined Southend United on loan for one month on 12 January 2012 after signing a new 18-month contract at Bolton. He was given the number 26 jersey for the duration of his loan period and made his debut on 14 January when coming on as a late substitute for Elliot Benyon in Southend's 5–2 victory at Northampton Town, where he gained an assist. On 13 February the loan was extended for a further month. This loan was extended for another month on 12 March. For the 2012/13 season Sampson was given the number 37 shirt for the Championship. On October 11 2012, Sampson joined Accrington Stanley on a one month loan deal.He now plays centre forward for Morecambe in League Two.


Class of 2008 - Jack Murphy (Rugby League Player)

Warrington-born Jack is now a member of the Wigan Warriors first team squad and has made four appearances this season. Whilst as Cansfield, Jack played for Ashton Bears before moving on to Wigan St. Judes. In 2010, Jack represented England at Academy level and was signed by Wigan. An elusive full-back with scintillating pace, Jack is one to watch in the future. In 2013, Jack played for Salford City Reds on loan and is now dual-registered with the South Wales Scorpions.


Class of 1992 - Kym Marsh (Actress/Singer)

Former Cansfield student Kym was born in Whiston, Merseyside and raised in Garswood. She first came into the public eye in 2001 after appearing as a contestant on ITV's talent show Popstars where she made the final line-up for the band Hear'Say along with four others. Marsh left the group in 2002 and had a brief but successful solo career. She now plays Michelle Connor in the long-running soap opera Coronation Street.
