CHILD DEVELOPMENT GCSE

COURSE DETAILS:

This course is a study of the development of babies and children from pre-conception to 5 years of age. It includes practical experience in local nurseries/play groups, and an assessment of a chosen baby/child under 5 years of age.

The 5 main areas of the course to be studied are:

  1. Parenthood
  2. Pregnancy
  3. Diet, Health and Care of the Child
  4. Development of the Child
  5. Support for the Parent and Child

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO:

You will be assessed in 3 ways:-

  1. Written Exam: - 40% of final mark
    This will cover work studied in the above topics
  2. Child Study: - 40% of final mark
    You will produce an in-depth study of a child. This will require research,
    investigation and observational visits made over a minimum of four months.
    To complete this coursework it is beneficial if you already have in mind a child
    you could study. The child should be under the age of 5 and one that you can
    visit on a regular basis.
  3. Research Task - 20% of final mark
    You will plan and carry out research and investigations about one of the areas
    of the course listed above. You will evaluate this work and comment on its usefulness.
