GEOGRAPHY GCSE

COURSE DETAILS:

The main areas of study are:

  • Theme 1: Challenges of living in a built environment
    This theme focuses on issues such as urban migration, sustainable urban planning and how
    quality of life and standard of living can vary in different locations. A variety of locations will be
    studied during this unit.
  • Theme 2: People and the Natural World Interactions
    This theme focuses on the physical elements of the course. Students will study hazard events
    and the impact they have on people and the environment. Students will also study weather and
    climate and ecosystems at a variety of scales and locations. In this theme, current issues such as
    climate change will be discussed.
  • Theme 3: People work and development
    This theme focuses on types of industry. Students will study the decline and rise of specific
    industries and the impacts on people. Students will study topical issues such as the current
    climate.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO:

There will be opportunities for a full range of varied activities, including group work,
independent research, field work and debates.

Assessment:

  • Unit 1 - Examination Theme 1 and 2 (30% / 1 hour)
  • Unit 2 - Examination Theme 3 and cross unit problem solving activity (45% / 2 hours)
  • Unit 3 - ‘Geographical Enquiry’ (15%) and ‘The Issue’ (10%)
