PHYSICAL EDUCATION GCSE

COURSE DETAILS

The course is divided into practical and theory work.

In the theory you will cover:

  • Healthy Active Lifestyles
  • Personal Health & Wellbeing
  • Benefits and Effects of Physical Activity / Training
  • The Cardiovascular System
  • The Respiratory System
  • The Muscular System
  • The Skeletal System

In the practical you will be assessed in a variety of activities.

Your best four activities will go towards your final mark. You need to offer at least two performances as a player/participant; however you can also offer performances as a leader and an official.

Your class teacher will guide you to which areas of activity, and how you display your performance, in order to gain the best possible marks.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO:

Practical:

  • Your practical performance will be assessed continually during the course -
    this accounts for 48% of your final exam.
  • You will display your knowledge of Analysis of performance in one of your choses activities.
    This is worth 12% of the marks and should include planning, performing and evaluating and
    Personal Exercise Programme.

Theory:

  • You will sit a written examination paper of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • This paper will make up 40% of your final marks.

Overall:

You will have 2 lessons per week

  • 1 Theory - which makes up 40%1 Practical - which makes up 60%
