A curriculum to challenge every student

Our enthusiastic and effective team of staff is dedicated to raising levels of achievement for everyone. Our curriculum is designed to provide a broad range of educational experiences, giving every student the opportunity to succeed.

Key Stage 3

The curriculum for students aged 11 to 14 meets the requirements of the National Curriculum, delivering the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Technology, Art, Music, PE, ICT, RE, Drama, French, German and a Personal Development Programme (incorporating Careers, PHSE and Citizenship).

Throughout the Key Stage, we use a variety of groupings including sets, mixed ability and form groups according to the subject needs.

Key Stage 4

In these GCSE years, we continue to offer a broad and balanced curriculum. The common core curriculum consists of English, Mathematics, Science, RE, PE and ICT. All students follow a Personal Development Programme which includes Careers, Health and Sex Education.

Students must choose either French or German and a system of options allows them to select additional subjects and other vocational courses through our links with Wigan and Leigh College and the Western Skills Centre; a collaborative of five High Schools.

Teaching is energetic, stimulating and allows pupils to take responsibility for their own learning. Well planned lessons, good pace and challenging tasks meet the needs of all pupils.
