PRIMARY P.E. PROVISION

PRIMARY COMPETITIONS

In Wigan there are many Primary competitions organised by both East Wigan Sports Development and the Ashton Primary cluster schools. consisting of focused schools linked to Cansfield and St Edmund   Arrowsmith.  A number of these competitions use Cansfield High School as a venue for the day by the use of facilities and officials to have an effective tournament. Y9, Y10 and Y11 students from Cansfield volunteer to help officiate the competitions which gives them the opportunity to learn officiating and  running competitions and also for the Primary pupils to meet Cansfield students.

Y5/6 Volleyball Competition at Cansfield High School

Cansfield hosted one of the grand prix competitions in which a number of school teams went through to a super 8’s final competition which took place in March at St Edmund Arrowsmith. The three schools that entered were R.L. Hughes, St Thomas’ and Holy Family who were all fantastic from the start. At the beginning, the volleyball coach from Volleyball England delivered a short coaching session to all the teams to familiarise the pupils with the skills required and the rules of the game. After that they were tested on the skills they had learnt by competing against one another. R.L. Hughes finished deserved winners but well done to all the pupils who showed some great skills at the event.

A Big Thank you goes to all the teachers who brought their pupils and also to the Team Cansfield Sports Leaders who were fantastic throughout the competition.

Y4 Handball Competition at Cansfield High School

Team Cansfield hosted the Ashton Primary Schools first Year 4 Handball Competition. We had 4 schools taking part on the day, and R.L. Hughes and St Thomas’ brought more than one team, which made it much more competitive. The other two schools who took part were Platt Bridge and St Wilfrid’s. Every game had some fantastic combinations of skill and determination to strive for that win, and even though some schools had hardly played before, they certainly all put up a good fight. The support from both   parents and teachers was excellent and pupils relished the opportunity to show off their skills. Well done to St Thomas’ who finished victorious at the end playing some amazing handball using fantastic team work and determination to win. This competition was a good stepping stone for future participation in sporting activities for all who took part, hopefully inspiring them to do more.

A Big Thank you goes to all the teachers who brought their pupils and also to the Team Cansfield Sports Leaders who were fantastic throughout the competition.

Y5/6 Dodgeball Competition at Cansfield High School

Team Cansfield hosted the first Ashton Primary schools Year 5/6 Dodgeball Competition. We had a brilliant turn out with 3 schools taking part, and R.L. Hughes, Abram C of E and St Wilfrid’s all brought more than one team. There were many hard fought games throughout the competition, with all schools showing they had played it before, maybe in PE lessons or afterschool clubs, with some amazing skill and technique.  All teams showed great hunger and determination to win which was very impressive to     witness. Again support from parents and teachers was excellent. Well done to R.L. Hughes who finished victorious at the end playing some aggressive dodgeball every match to gain most points after all matches were complete.

A Big Thank you goes to all the teachers who brought their pupils and also to the Team Cansfield Sports Leaders who were fantastic throughout the competition.
