TRIPLE SCIENCE GCSE

COURSE DETAILS:

The GCSE Triple Science option is a two year course which allows students to take an extra 2 GCSE Science lessons per week in addition to their four compulsory lessons. This option enables students to obtain 3 separate science GCSE's in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

The 3 separate GCSE's give the student the opportunity to study each of the 3 Sciences in more detail than the ‘core’ and ‘additional’ Science GCSE’s.

This will prepare the student more thoroughly for future learning in any science based subjects.

Please Note: this course is only suitable for students who are achieving Level 6 and above in Science and are totally committed to the subject.

Throughout Year 10 and 11 students will complete a range of topics in each scientific area. They will also undertake a variety of practical investigations to enhance their investigative skills. These units will then be assessed by formal end of unit exams.

Each separate science consists of 5 units:

For example: Biology GCSE

  • Biology 1 Structured Question paper (45 mins)
  • Biology 2 (25%) Structured Question paper (45 mins)
  • Biology 3 (25%) Structured Question paper (45 mins)
  • Practical Assessment (25%) Investigation & Written Paper (45 mins)

Both the Chemistry and Physics GCSE follow the same pattern of assessment

Each Science GCSE has 2 tiers of entry:

Higher Tier: Covers Grades A* - C

Foundation Tier: Covers Grades C - G
