Ofsted inspected Cansfield in February 2012. The overall judgement was that we are a good school.... “where staff and students show respect for one another and there is a tangible sense of pride and ambition throughout the school”. Awarded an Outstanding and Good grades throughout we are now ready for the next stage of our development.

Prior to that in 2006 Cansfield High was re-designated as a Specialist Language College awarded High Performing status from the Specialist Trust, designated a most improved school and subsequent to these been awarded the status of a Training School as a second specialism.

Supported by a dedicated Governing Body our aim is to provide a quality education for students of all abilities in a demanding and caring environment.

Teaching and Learning is our number one priority. We have developed systems and procedures to ensure proper planning and evaluation but also recognise that imaginative teachers working with motivated students are the key to future success.

GCSE results are improving year on year. The school has been oversubscribed for a good five year period.

We believe that teachers and students deserve the best environment and resources. 98%+ of teachers teach in their own room and to their specialist subject. As far as we are able resources are made available to subject requests. The building is carefully monitored and refurbished. We have benefitted in recent years from a £ 1.5 million investment in a new English suite, Music suite, Technology suite and a 400+ seater dining room. Facilities and environment have never been better.

We aim to encourage students to take responsibility for their learning and the environment. We operate an open school policy underpinned by clear behaviour procedures. In addition, all forms have a representative on the Year Council which meets with the Head of Year, and in turn feeds into the School Council chaired by the Head Boy and Head Girl. A prefect system operates for Year 11 students.

As a school we encourage enhancement and extra-curricular activities and we are committed to the proper training and development of both teaching and non-teaching staff.

We are an ambitious school and as such have set ourselves demanding targets for school improvement.

As Head, I have every confidence that we will be successful.

If you can contribute to the achievement of our ambition we will be pleased to receive your application.
